What is Preterview?
Preterview is a voice mock-interview service with three AI interviewers, alongside a resume builder and a portfolio review. It's a place for developers and job seekers to rehearse their answers before the real interview.
What can I use for free?
Signing up gives you 1 free pass (valid 30 days) — enough for one portfolio review. On top of that, one portfolio review per account is free, resume polishing is free up to 10 times a day, and resume import up to 3 times a month. One AI mock interview costs 5 passes, so the free pass alone won't start one. No credit card to start.
How does pricing work — is it a subscription?
There's no subscription. You buy passes only when you need them. Light is 5 passes for $6.99, Season is 20 passes (15+5) for $19.99, and Pro is 50 passes (30+20) for $39.99. One AI mock interview uses 5 passes; one portfolio review or revision uses 1 pass. Purchased passes are valid for 90 days.
What can I do with passes?
5 passes cover one AI mock interview (up to 24 question-and-answer turns and up to 2 report generations); 1 pass covers one portfolio review or revision. One balance works across both interviews and portfolio.
Does the AI result guarantee I'll pass?
No. The AI's questions, evaluations, and reports are there to support practice, not to guarantee an outcome. Use them as a tool to tighten the form and delivery of your answers.
Can I get a refund?
Passes you haven't used are fully refundable within 7 days of purchase — 14 days if you are a consumer in the EU/EEA or the UK. If you've used some, we deduct only those at the per-pass price (amount paid divided by total passes granted) and refund the rest. The refund policy page has the full terms.
Interview prep
How is an AI mock interview different from a real one?
The biggest difference is you can answer the same question as many times as you want. On the other hand, room nerves and improvised follow-ups are hard to reproduce, so drill the basics with AI and add practice with a real person for the live feel.
How long should a 1-minute self-introduction be?
At a comfortable pace, about 130-150 words, or roughly 5-7 sentences. Write it out, time yourself reading it aloud, and aim to land between 55 seconds and just over a minute.
How should I structure an interview answer?
Use STAR — Situation, Task, Action, Result — so the listener doesn't lose the thread. Lead with your conclusion, put a number in the result where you can, and keep each answer to about 30-60 seconds.
How long should a developer resume be?
One page for new grads and juniors, and rarely more than two even for experienced candidates. Rather than padding length, drop weaker entries to raise the density of what remains.
