AI Interview Practice Without a Subscription: Options and Costs

Question lists, answer drafts and recorded repetition cost nothing. Paste the job post and your resume into a general-purpose chatbot, ask for likely questions, and draft each answer in situation, task, action, result order. Write only things that actually happened. A draft with an invented result is the one you will repeat out loud later without noticing.

Dedicated services also have free entry points. Aced, formerly Exponent and now home to the peer practice that used to run as Pramp, gives free users a monthly allotment of practice credits and members unlimited access, with peer-to-peer mock interviews as the default format (official page). That is not unlimited free use, so check the credit count before you build a plan around it.

What free tools rarely cover is repeated voice practice with follow-up questions and a consistent written report on each answer. A chatbot handles text Q&A, but whether you led with the conclusion or skipped the evidence only shows up when you replay a recording. When interviews arrive a few at a time and your search may end within weeks. Subscriptions reward even monthly use, but interview practice clusters into the days before a real interview and nearly stops during application season. A quiet month bills exactly like a busy one, so you cannot judge the cost without writing down your expected sessions.

Annual pricing needs a second read. When a service shows an annual plan as a per-month figure, the annual price is paid up front for twelve months rather than billed monthly, so a search that ends after two months does not automatically return the remaining balance. Huru's official page (official page), checked on October 25, 2026, says it is free for job seekers with no subscription; on September 18 it listed Starter at $24.99 per month and Growth at $99 per year. Listed prices change, so confirm the total on the checkout screen.

Forgetting to cancel after an offer belongs in the total too. If you do subscribe, note the next billing date and the cancellation path before paying, and set a reminder for the day you accept a job.

Divide the monthly price by the per-session price. The result is the break-even number of sessions per month. If you will clearly exceed it every month, the subscription wins. If not, pay per session. The comparison only holds when one session includes a similar number of questions and a similar report on both sides, so match the scope first.

A hypothetical example for illustration only: a $30 monthly plan against $10 per session breaks even at three sessions. With two interviews booked and one full rehearsal each, per-session costs $20 and saves $10. With five interviews, the plan saves $20. Real prices differ by service, so put checkout figures into the blanks rather than these.

The table lists only what each provider publishes on its official pages as of the verification date. It is not a quality ranking, and free versus paid says nothing about depth on its own.

interviewing.io offers anonymous technical mock interviews with working engineers and now also an AI Interviewer for coding and system design practice (official page). Its per-session price was not verified for this guide, so read it on the site. Preterview runs mock interviews that draw questions from your resume, portfolio and the job post, then returns feedback on each answer, plus a separate portfolio review. As of October 8, 2026, a signed-up account gets one free portfolio review a day (scores, the evaluation and one improvement in full; one pass opens the other improvements), and mock interviews have no free allowance beyond a one-question taster (once per account, since October 24, 2026). Interviews are pay-as-you-go rather than monthly: one interview uses 5 passes, 5 passes start at $6.99, and purchased passes stay valid for 90 days. Confirm current terms on pricing and usage terms before paying, and see the report format in a sample report.

Tie every paid session to a booked interview. In weeks with no interview, do only free work. When one is scheduled, use the week before it in the order below. This is a practice procedure Preterview suggests. If the employer publishes its own guidance, that comes first.

1. Day the invitation arrives: read every required and preferred qualification in the posting and write one real experience next to each.
2. Five to six days out: generate about fifteen likely questions with a chatbot and draft each in situation, task, action, result order. Where you lack the experience, say you are learning it rather than inventing it.
3. Three to four days out: answer out loud without the drafts and record. Mark answers where the conclusion arrives late or the evidence is missing.
4. Two to three days out: spend one paid voice mock interview. Note where follow-up questions stalled you and pick three answers to revisit.
5. The day before: re-record only those three. Strengthen the evidence instead of memorizing new wording.

Find these five items on the checkout screen and write them down. Deciding on the headline price alone leads to surprises from expiry windows and renewal terms.

• Scope of one session: number of questions, whether follow-ups are included, how many reports, and whether you can reopen them later
• Validity: days from purchase and whether unused sessions roll over
• Auto-renewal: next billing date and cancellation path, for monthly and annual plans alike
• Refunds: conditions for unused sessions and the request deadline
• Total: the actual charge and currency at checkout, not the per-month equivalent

Refund terms vary and are specific. Final Round AI's official refund policy describes requests within 72 hours, a usage condition and a once-per-customer guarantee, while the same document also carries an exclusion for monthly billing (official policy). Whether any given refund is approved depends on the policy in force when you paid and your account history, so confirm with their support team.

Cancelling auto-renewal and getting a refund are separate steps. Cancellation stops the next charge. Recovering money already paid requires meeting the refund conditions on their own.

When your preparation runs for months and you will clearly use voice mock interviews several times a week. A career changer interviewing across many companies over a long stretch, or someone without a study partner who wants daily conversational practice, will get a lower per-session cost from an unlimited plan.

If you subscribe, keep two rules. Prepay annually only when you are confident the search really runs that long, and count your actual sessions each month. If you fall below the break-even number, switch to per-session pricing the following month. The goal is to stop paying for months you do not use.
